DIRECTIONS

 

LOCATION:  233 Sansome St:  Located between Pine and California Sts., in the Bank of the Orient building, which has the big red sign sticking out of the building. It is across the street from the Four Seasons Hotel and a few doors from the 7-11. 

 

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

BART:  Get off at Montgomery Station.  Exit at the east end, to the Sutter and Sansome Exit.

Walking from the Sutter/Sansome St exit:  Go up the escalator/stairs, keep walking the same direction to the next corner, which is Bush St. Continue on Sansome, past Pine Street and the building is on the left, past the 7-11 store and before the Bank of the Orient entrance.

MUNI:  Near many Muni lines (which have been reduced since Covid shutdown)

  • #2  (Inbound) Get off at Market at 1st Street.
  • #5  (Inbound) Get off at Market and 1st St.
  • #12 (Inbound or Outbound) Get off at Sansome and Sacramento (to Jackson St)or Clay and Sansome (to Valencia St)
  • California Street cable car.
  • All Market Street buses (including #38):  Get off near 1st St or Sansome and Market Sts.
  • Muni Metro (K, L, M, N lines):  Montgomery Station. Exit at far east end. 


PARKING

TRAFFIC since the pandemic has eased from former horrendous bumper-to-bumper rush hour driving. However, driving is NOT recommended, since parking is VERY LIMITED (see below). Drop-off (taxi, Uber or Lyft) or UNDERGROUND transportation (Muni Metro or BART) is normally the best way to go. 

Street parking is VERY limited (mostly commercial metered parking), and TOWAWAY (!!) after 3 p.m. on many streets. DO NOT expect any street parking, even handicapped. 

Nearby garage parking is limited. Nearest is probably the Four Seasons Hotel garage (entrance on Battery St, though exits on Sansome).  The Mills Building garage between Sansome and Montgomery (entrance on left side of Pine Street next to the Equinox gym) is pricey ($4.50 every 15 minutes) but typical of the area.  It is valet parking. It does not take trucks or vans or large SUVs.  235 Pine St garage (left side of Pine, between Battery and Sansome) is another option ($3.50 per 15 mins). 

CHEAPEST and most available parking is at the Sutter-Stockton garage (5 1/2 blocks away, = OK walking distance).  Car entrance is on Bush Street (at Stockton) or on Stockton (at Sutter).  Exit at the pedestrian walkway onto Bush Street, from the 2nd floor of the garage, or by elevator to Sutter St.  Rates: $5.00/hour! from 9am - 6 pm). Or, St Mary's Square Garage, which is closer, at 433 Kearney St. between Pine and California, but more expensive ($7/hr).
